Flexible Fit.  The ear buds and ear hooks are both made of flexible silicon that conforms to your ear easily.

Washable.  All earbuds are sweat proof and washable.

Cons

Secure Fit.  While the earbuds are comfortable once in place, the material seems to get “slippery” which then loses fit.

Soft Sounds.  The overall sound quality isn’t bad, but for some reason it just seemed extremely quiet.

There’s actually 3 versions of the Philips ActionFit Earhook Headphones:

1. SHQ 3000/28 – the headphones we reviewed here
2. SHQ 3005/28 – includes in-line controls for iPhone users (orange)
3. SHQ 3017/28 – includes in-line controls for iPhone users (black)

Philips has had a lot of success with their ActionFit series mainly because they created a decent pair of sports headphones at an affordable price.  While we like the overall product we did have a few complaints.

The general design of the earhook and earbud are pretty standard.  We found them to be flexible enough to achieve a good fit pretty quickly and if that isn’t enough they include 3 different size ear tips.  Though we didn’t experience any problems we did read about some complaints people with smaller ears had and fitting well with the earhook.

The silicone earbuds are definitely comfortable, but they also tend to get “slick”, especially if you sweat a lot.  So, even though they’re sweat resistant they may end up slipping out of your ear canal, which defeats the purpose of noise isolation.

On the other hand it’s pretty simple to clean these earbuds since they are washable.

On the manufacturer page Philips claims these headphones are “tunes for sports” with a great bass response.  The sound quality is definitely decent, it’s just not amazing.  We checked the sensitivity and frequency response and they were in line with other sports headphones, but most of the bass sounds just seemed “softer.”

The bottom line is these are a quality pair of sports headphones considering how affordable they are, but if you’re willing to spend a little more you can increase sound quality and fit.  If you’re set on a pair of earhook headphones you may want to check out the Polk Audio UltraFit series.

The Philips SHQ 4000/28 Neckband Headphones are “tuned for sports”.  What does that mean?  It means Philips specifically designed these with the athlete in mind.  They have a comfortable neckband frame that isn’t just lightweight but is actually built out of anti-bacterial and sweat resistant material.

The next time you’re thinking about hitting the pavement for an easy 10K you’ll want to consider grabbing a pair of these bad boys.  You’ll also want to take note of the location of the cord as it exits out of the left ear-bud behind your neck, which means no more bouncing cord all over your chest as you run.

And if you’re worried about getting the ear-buds dirty, don’t.  The Philips SHQ 4000/28 Neckband Headphones ear-buds are 100% washable.

Panasonic RP-HS11 Water-Resistant Lightweight Sport-Clip Headphones with Washable Pads

Panasonic has managed to do 2 great things with their RP-Hs11 Sport Clip Headphones:

1. They created removable washable pads
2. They managed to develop some pretty quality headphones for super CHEAP

One thing I don’t believe Panasonic kept in mind when creating the removable washable ear pads, was that some people remove them just for comfort.  That’s right, if you don’t like them just pop them off and workout without them.  These may not have the same quality of a few other headphones, but for $12 it is hard to pass them up.
