While these may work for most earbuds they are specifically tailored to work with the Apple earbuds.

We love Apple, but man their earbuds are horrible for working out.  Sure you can get the in-ear canal ones with the soft silicone tips that expand in your ear canal for a better fit, but even those aren’t that great.

Acoustibuds solves that problem with the addition of their soft tips to your earbuds. This may not be the absolute best headphones solution, but it is likely one of the cheapest.  The soft tips have two man functions 1) increase security by using an in-ear canal fit to help keep them in place, 2) increase sound quality.

We agree, they do increase security in terms of fit, but sound quality wasn’t really changed.  It does however allow you to decrease the volume and still maintain the same clarity since the music is closer to your inner ear.

Some people are just bothered by working out with something strapped to their ears or shoved into their ear canal.  If that sounds like you then you may want to consider checking out the Sonic Walk Lightning.

BudFits: How Do They Work?

If you’ve ever worn your Apple earbuds to the gym you may have encountered one of the main problems of using them as workout earbuds: they don’t tend to have a very secure fit.

Most sports earbuds utilize a neckband, ear hook, ear fin, or some other type of positive connection to ensure your headphones don’t fall off during a workout.  Unfortunately the white earbuds that come with your iPod or iPhone don’t contain any such feature.

The BudFits solve this problem by allowing you to attach a soft silicone ear hook directly to the base of the earbud.  You simply place the earbud inverted into your ear and wrap the ear hook over the outside of your ear (see the picture below).

We don’t actually recommend using the Apple earbuds if you’re serious about your training; they just aren’t going to withstand the abuse of an intense workout (or any workout for that matter).  But if you insist and not using sports headphones then the least you can do is add a little bit of style to your earbuds.

How many times do your workout earbuds get pulled out because your arm gets caught on the headphone wire?

How many times have you tried to come up with some creative way of attaching your headphone cable to your clothing by taping it or using some other funny thing to hold them still?

If you’re like most people, the answer is A LOT.

Being interrupted by cables bouncing around your chest as you jog on the treadmill or get tangled around a dumbbell as you do some curls is beyond annoying.  Sometimes it’s just plain frustrating.  Luckily Acoustigrip has a very simple and very cheap answer.

How to use the Acoustigrips?

Acoustigrip was designed as a workout headphone management system.  It consists of 2 separate clips.

1. Clip 1 goes to your headphone cables approximately 6 inches below your chin.  This clip “zips” the wires together and then clips them to your chest or shoulder.  This allows you to set the perfect wire slack, which equates to no more pulling your earphones out of your ears as you run or workout.
2. Clip 2 attaches the single cable further down your chest, so that you prevent the cable from bouncing around your upper and lower body.

Which workout headphones do the Acoustigrips work with?

Unfortunately the Acoustigrips don’t work with every brand of headphones.  The good news, however, is they work well for the brands that do support them.

Why don’t they work with all brands?

To be honest, if you wanted to mess around with the clip you could get it to work with nearly any brand.  The main problem is the clip is designed for a specific headphone wire size.  The typical issue is that any brand not mentioned above may have a large size headphone cable, and it just may be a little bit more difficult to get the Acoustigrip to fit, if at all.

With all that said, if you happen to have an iPhone, iPod,  Sony, or Zune, these are perfect.
